Mother Exotics | Animals supports a ban on exotic animals

COLUMBUS – The mother of Elyria man, 24, mutilated and killed by a black bear while working for Sam Mazzola animals common compounds Columbia wants a law that prevents anyone, even the current owners have exotic animals.

In a letter to Governor Ted Strickland Sunday Kandra Brent's mother, Deirdre Herbert, said he fully supports the ban proposed by the Governor of the ownership of exotic animals and wildlife.

The bear, called Iroquois, was killed at the request of the family.

While the law prohibits the sale and possession of exotic animals including Mazzola owners who already have these animals would be excluded in.

Under the new law, owners would not be allowed to breed animals that currently owns or to learn more.

The State has taken into account the need for removal if the owner is acting irresponsibly.

In his letter, Herbert warns against the State to allow the grandfather clause, saying it would give "careful consideration" to him.

Herbert also refers to four other incidents in a state of injury by wild animals or exotic. These incidents, however, have not been fatal.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, the last known fatal deaths occurred in Ohio was in 2006 when a Hamilton County man was killed by her pet python.
